My academic journey began in the Moyne Institute, where I obtained a degree in Microbiology from Trinity College Dublin. During my degree I developed particular interest in lung pathogenic diseases and Cystic Fibrosis (CF) while completing my capstone project titled “Determining the Effect Co-colonisation with A. fumigatus has on Individual Components of P. aeruginosa Biofilms”.

I joined RCSI in 2023 as a MSc student in the department of Clinical Microbiology investigating “Antibacterial, anti-biofilm and antibiotic-enhancing effects of miRNAs”for which I was awarded a personal traineeship award from the American CF Foundation. My interests for miRNAs has since flourished with the goal of revealing more of its potential and role in CF lung disease. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to develop this project into my PhD with Dr Irene Oglesby where I will be completing my thesis titled “Exploring the role of miRNA in iPSC-derived airway basal cells from individuals with Cystic Fibrosis with variable treatment outcomes”.
