Dr. Irene Oglesby

My principal area of interest is Cystic Fibrosis (CF) in which I have worked for over a decade. I obtained my PhD in respiratory medicine and published key research to advance the molecular characterisation of CF, specifically in the area of miRNA dysregulation. My current research is centered on the use of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to model and study CF pathogenesis. I currently hold a Wellcome Trust Fellowship to investigate the role of miRNA in CF patient specific iPSC-derived models. I am the Principle Investigator on a HRB Emerging Investigator Award for a new four year project ‘IMPROVE CF’. This project will pair up with the clinical teams working on the real-word ‘RECOVER’ study which is examining the day-to-day effects of the latest triple combination modulator Kaftrio® for people with CF and will create a patient-specific lab model of CF lung disease to investigate variable Kaftrio® response using iPSCs.
